Wireless LAN (WLAN) technology is attracting a tremendous amount of interest and enjoying rapid success in the communications market space. Most new laptop computers are shipping with embedded Wi-Fi capability, and it is now being added to PDAs and cellphones as well. As a result of the popularity and clear benefits of WLANs, more and more manufacturers are incorporating WLAN capability into an ever-increasing variety of products, both old and new. Until recently, most manufacturers have provided WLAN connectivity via a WLAN card that plugs into PCMCIA or similar, on laptops or customer premises equipment. Soon, manufacturers will do away with the cards and begin building WLAN connectivity into the chipsets themselves that will then be integrated into this range of end products.
